But the charity is the 'My Boss Family Charitable Trust' of which has all of their family on the board, and pays one of their kids to manage it.

The endowment for the trust is invested in the family business, and the required minimum spent on actual charitable works goes to Boss's kid's school.

A donation to charity. They get nothing and can't complain about it.

Definitely. I donate monthly as well. Another way to donate for "free" is to make SENS your Amazon smile beneficiary. If you don't know if you shop at (same site, same everything including amazon prime), Amazon will donate .5% of your purchase to a charity of your choice.

ELI5: confused Brit...what's up with the US Republican Party?

Jesus wasn't only about helping the poor. There was also the part about obeying the moral law. At least on the surface, Republicans are more likely to support that side (man-woman marriage, more strict with divorce, allowing prayer in schools, forbidding abortion etc) while the Democrats support the social charity part. Unfortunately there isn't a party that supports both.

TIL that the Cult Awareness Network (CAN), once the largest anti-cult support hotline, is now owned by the church of scientology.

The food drives that take up a tiny percent of the budget they're getting handed to them? Charities are $4.7 billion out of their total budget of $171B. That's less than 3%. Would you ever donate to a charity that only put 3% of their income into actual charitable activity? (And that 4.7B probably counts admin costs, so it's really even worse than that)

Obama Directs Administration to Accept 10,000 Syrian Refugees

As an American there is so much you can do to help them. You can vollenteer with an aid group, donate money to a charity or even look into finding a group that will set you up with a family that you can help integrate to this country. Supreme overlord Obama accepting 10k refugees will only cause us to create camps or slums where we are housing any part of 10k undereducated, unconditioned and otherwise ill equipped people that will have no idea how to fit in and will gather together and create their own little refuge of culture that will only serve to shield them from assimilating and becoming full capable of enjoying the lifestyle that America can provide. I'm all for trying to help these people, but simply shipping 10k of them over here without a proper plan for either integration or simply holding them until they can find a better place for them is just iresponsible.

Also they never fall midweek without it being a charity day which yesterday wasn't. And this bullshit isn't on the news or anywhere else on the net. Just downvote the shit out of this child and move on.

Bonus points: If you sign them up for a charity in their name, they may start getting more junk mail and/or telemarketing calls down the road! Nonprofits are exempt from the "Do Not Call" list, and some of them (even legitimate ones) share their donors' information with third parties, unless asked not to.
